The future of the internet

This post on THE FUTURE OF THE INTERNET would be based mostly on my thoughts (:

Last September, the Internet turned 40. After surviving for so long, it has evolved from web1.0 to 2.0, to the soon to be web 3.0. So what is in store for us as the Internet continues to grow?

One of the more noticeable changes is that many appliances are becoming Touch Screen. One thing good about the current touch screen applications in phones are that it allows more space on the screen. Furthermore when playing games, there is less restrictions. However, the main setback of this is that the response is still rather slow.

Similar to touch screen is the application where the computer can sense movement. ( as seen in the video of minority report) I like it as there would be less restrictions in movement, and it is wide screen (:

Similarly, the technology of the projector pen should be further developed to benefit us students!!! ( in youtube video below)

Besides being able to project a computer screen, it should also be able to project textbooks!!!! while retaining its function as a pen! In the future, all students would only need to bring a PEN to school :D

Another good prediction is that, soon everyone would be able to connect to the Internet anytime and anywhere, where many devices would be wifi enabled.

Letting my imagination go wild:

I think in the far far future, we would be able to interact with our appliances. Expanding on the example given in class, I could ask my refrigerator what ingredients it has and what dishes i can prepare and the refrigerator would be able to answer me while giving suggestions. And if i need any additional ingredients, the refrigerator would be able to use its power to find the website of a grocery store and place an order for me. NOW! wouldn't this be great?

Regarding nanotechnology, this is something that i think all girls would love. Instead of only being able to mold the watch and choosing the designs of it, why not apply this fabulous technology to the fashion industry?? Imagine being able to easily design your own outfit? And if you get bored of it or need to change to something else, just 'unlock it' and do your magic!! NICE!!!!!!! But i think this would take many many years to future develop. The same could go for bags and shoes etc!! (:(:
In the future:

Innovations that would be useful and good (:

Social Networking Sites

One of the online community that interests me is........
1.........2..........3.........4.......Hi5!

Hi5 was created in 2003, a little earlier than Facebook. Although they have similar applications, Facebook is definitely much more popular.

From www.alexa.com :

Percent of global Internet users who visit facebook.com:

Yesterday32.02+0.1%Change in Reach over the trailing 1d period
7 day31.9+1.2%Change in Reach over the trailing 1w period

1 month0.967-6.1%Change in Reach over the trailing 1m period
3 month1.057-13.3%Change in Reach over the trailing 3m period
As we can see from the figures above, Facebook is much more popular than Hi5.

Facebook ranks No.1 in many countries such as Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and even Singapore, while being No.2 in the US.

From the tables above, we can see that each website attracts a different group of people although their applications may be similar. In fact, i think that the applications of Facebook and Hi5 are very similar, in terms of accepting friends, profile viewing, uploading and commenting of pictures. They even have a similar action.....

One thing i like about Hi5 is that they keep their users constantly updated about their recent press releases and media coverage. To better the relationship between both parties, there is even a blog, where there are more details, pictures and even videos.

So why is Facebook more popular than Hi5?

This is because....

WHY??

~ one major bad point about Hi5 is that it has less privacy than FB. ANYONE can look at your account even if they are not users of Hi5

~there have been comments that the design layout of Hi5 is not as eye-catching and user friendly as compared to FB

~ running Hi5 could slow down the computer

~Hi5 is not compatible with Twitter

However, i feel that different networking sites are unique in their own way, where one can be better than the other on certain aspects. The country also matters. For example, in the US, as many people use FB, it would be natural that even more people would use FB over other networking sites as they would not be able to connect to the 'majority' of the people in their country.
